“Walter Smith – 1924”

“Walter Smith – 1924”

Oil on canvas panel

This poor guy’s face has seen a lot of miles and a lot dancing with hobnail jackboots! This is from an old mugshot. I thought his face had great sadness in it as well as looking mean as dirt and hard as a coffin nail. One thing’s for sure I would hate to run into him in a dark alley.

Something I have discovered with this experiment I call “Painting A Day” is that I really enjoy painting color from black and white reference. It seems to free me to experiment and not be slavish to the actual colors.
